The tradition of the bride and groom giving wedding favors to their guest is a long running practice believed to have been started hundreds of years ago in Europe. At that time cheap wedding favors were not very common as the practice was reserved for mostly the wealthy, who would give their guest finely made boxes with delicious treasures inside. The contents of which was usually sugar, a delicacy of those times. As time progressed almonds became standard and the guest would usually receive five of them to represent the health, wealth, happiness, fertility, and long life of the newly joined couple.
